Pavilion

A traditional Chinese garden is an enclosed environment providing space for reflection and an escape from the outside world. It is typically constructed to include a pond, rock sculptures, trees and flowers, winding paths and pavilions. A stroll through the garden gives carefully composed views framed by the flora, windows, lattice screens, and doors, unfurling like a landscape painting. This Pavilion is a scaled-up version of a 19th Century bench designed by the Austrian furniture producer Michael Thonet. The cotton webbing on the top and two of the four vertical sides replicates the same pattern used in the original caning design.
